Flowers grow in flower beds and they are the most prominent parts of any garden. Flower bed cultivation is an important process which comprises of selecting the appropriate area, apt designing of the beds, growing the most suitable plants and constantly taking care of them. You should not be under the impression that flower bed cultivation is an easy process. The design should go along with the overall design scheme of the garden. A good drainage is needed for the bed since most of the garden plants except water plants would not be able to grow in boggy conditions. The overall designing should be done in such a manner that it aids in easy removal of weeds, pests etc and allowing watering and fertilization easily.

You should not forget to dig up the area that you have decided to change into a flower bed. The texture of the soil can be improved by adding either loose or tight soil according to the need of the situation. Never keep the turf too hard or too loose. Weeds and their seeds can be eliminated from the site by applying herbicide on the turf, though natural methods like digging and tilling are also followed. After this, a layer of compost should be spread at the top of the bed for assisting healthy and easy growth.

If you want to plant perennials, remember to dig to at least two feet. If needed, install edges also. Flower beds, being the most conspicuous elements of your garden, need tender care.
